Series 7 Countdown: Worst Series 2

As Series 7 draws ever nearer, I am going to start publishing countdown posts. For each post I will write about my most memorable episode from that series and also a separate article for my least favourite episode of that series. (The 2009 Specials and the Christmas Special's will both have there separate articles) Today's article is on my least favourite episode of Series 2.

Love and Monsters

Yes, I think we all knew that this was the one as Love and Monsters has gone down as one of the worst episodes of the revival. But, I don't think it was as bad as others such as The Unquiet Dead or in my opinion, the worst episode since the revival, Series 6's The God Complex.

NOTE: It was very close between Love and Monsters and The Idiot's Lantern for this series but The Idiot's Lantern was a lot better if you think about it and I think Elton was one of the worst characters RTD has ever created.

Elton

As I said above, one of the worst characters of RTD's era. Let me tell you why. A character that can only be described as cheesy, is just seen having geeky fun for the first half of the episode and then all of a sudden he starts to be this goofy spy looking for a man he met for about 10 seconds as a kid. Another word to describe Elton is sad and the fact that he went from loving Jackie Tyler one minute to loving Ursula the next, was just strange...

LINDA

I cringed when I heard the geeky group known as London Investigation 'N' Detective Agency said the 'N' thinking they were all so cool... LINDA were a group of sad people who had nothing to do with their time and when it got to the part of them in the band, I actually thought I had put on the wrong channel and was actually about to switch it off when Victor Kennedy came through the door...

Victor Kennedy

As an extremely weak episode, the entrance of Kennedy did make it a little better but it was pretty obvious that we was going to be an alien and the whole, 'Oh, I've forgotten my phone' scene between Elton and Ursula was so bad and this episode had gone from occasional use of cliche to cliche MAD!

The Abzorbaloff

For once I was actually on the monster's side in this episode as I think we've all got to thank him for getting rid of LINDA and their cheesy life's. But when the creature itself was actually revealed I actually started laughing with how ridiculous it looked! The black hair on its back, the swampy creature... And no way could anything that fat ran as fast as it did!

In Conclusion...

An extremely poor episode from start to finish but even when the Doctor and Rose finally made an appearance, they couldn't save it as already to much damage had been done. As the credits rolled for this episode I couldn't help feeling that had RTD run out of ideas? Was the revival of Doctor Who not going to last much longer? Was it all too good to be true? The following week with Fear Her wasn't a great episode but was fantastic compared to this one and I was still feeling a bit anxious as by the time the Saturday of Army of Ghosts had arrived it had been a full three weeks since the last great episode of Doctor Who. But all my worries were banished as soon as all those ghosts appeared and the Torchwood arc was coming to an end as you'll see by my last article, this two-part finale was my favourite story of Series 2.

Tomorrow: Best Episode of Series 3
