Series 7 Countdown: Series 6 Monsters

Today, I shall finally conclude my countdown posts to Series 7. I started by detailing my favourite and least favourite episodes of each series since the revival and last Sunday, I started detailing the monster and aliens that have appeared in each episode since the revival in a series by series format. So today's article is on the main aliens and monsters that appeared in Series 6.

Silence - The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon/The Wedding of River Song

The Silence have to be the creepiest Doctor Who aliens ever! I loved Moffat's latest creation as they looked scary, they WERE scary and when they moved their arms just before they electrocuted somebody, that was very freaky! Absolutely loved these monsters and I loved how we actually had an alien that was part of the arc so appeared in many episodes of the series. 5/5

Siren - The Curse of the Black Spot

The Siren was a great alien as it had a well thought out back story and the idea that it used reflection was clever as the setting of the episode was surrounded by water! The Siren looked good the song was creepy as it rose from the water... 4/5

House - The Doctor's Wife

Finally we had an entity that I liked! House was a great villain as it devours TARDISes, an idea which I thought was genius. Thanks to House we also managed to see more of the new TARDIS set and is definitely me favourite entity ever to feature in Doctor Who. 5/5

Flesh - The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People/A Good Man Goes To War

The Flesh story wasn't a favourite of mine but the Flesh did have some good points. The idea surrounding it was good but if you think about it, how can a solar storm make something that was never alive in the first place, alive? 2/5

Kovarian - Day of the Moon/The Curse of the Black Spot/The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People/A Good Man Goes To War/Closing Time/The Wedding of River Song

The main villain of Series 6 was a clever idea and I loved the mystery as to why she kept on appearing before Amy, before her first proper story (A Good Man Goes To War). In the Battle of Demons Run, we were shown how evil she was as she didn't care about Amy's feelings and just took Melody from her. However, we were never told what happened to her in the current version of reality. 4/5

Teselecta - Let's Kill Hitler/The Wedding of River Song

The introduction of the Teselecta seemed a bit odd at the time of Let's Kill Hitler but I loved how they saved the Doctor from dying in The Wedding of River Song. The whole idea about them I loved just like the Doctor does, and I hope we are given another Teselecta story in the future as you could write a story with them in it surrounding any war event in the whole of time. 5/5

Peg Dolls - Night Terrors

Don't even get me started on the worst Doctor Who monsters to ever be created. Just look at them and you will get my point! Mark Gatiss, bow your head in shame... 1/5

Handbots - The Girl Who Waited

Despite their plain look, I quite liked the Handbots and the idea that they actually had human like hands was quite creepy but I was still reeling over the shocking monsters we had the previous week... 3/5

Minotaur - The God Complex

The Minotaur was a pretty bad monster and this was the third week in a row we had had a fairly bad monster. The Minotaur looked weird and although the idea of The God Complex I liked, the Minotaur could have looked much better. 2/5

Cybermen - Closing Time

Although I loved Closing Time as as episode, I feel the Cybermen were pretty wasted in this episode. It wasn't like the Cybermen were on their last legs, we had been shown that there were Cyber Legions all across space earlier on in the series. That aside, I liked seeing the metal men again but I feel they were defeated in a pretty unsatisfying way. 3/5

And my favourite is...

The Silence

For all the reasons I stated above, the Silence were great monsters and more than deserve a comeback story in the future. I think we will as the legend does say that Silence will fall when the question is asked, so they must be there...

And my least favourite is...

Ped Dolls

Like I said above, don't even get me started on these monstrosities...

In Conclusion...

A series that started of excellent in the monster way of things but as of Episode 9, things went down hill so my final word has to be pretty average but had some of the most fantastic monsters I had seen in a while at the start.

Series 7 Countdown: Worst Series 6

With Series 7 only 9 days away, my countdown posts of my favourite and least favourite episodes for each series of New Who is coming to an end. Today I will write about my least favourite episode of Series 6, tomorrow shall see my favourite Christmas Special and on Saturday I will conclude with my least favourite Christmas Special. But... with six other days before next Saturday, I will be continuing my countdown posts with a different subject! You want to know? Wait until Sunday...

So my least favourite episode of Series 6 is...

The Rebel Flesh

The 'flesh' two parter has to be my least favourite two parter EVER! But what makes The Rebel Flesh worse, I hope to detail in this article.

NOTE: The God Complex was close in being my least favourite but The Rebel Flesh has a much weaker storyline.

Solar Storm

Apart from Amy turning out to be a ganger, the Solar Storm was the only other point I really liked about this two parter. But the story which the TARDIS crew were given after being hit by a Solar Storm could have been much better than this! When the TARDIS was hit I was really excited and thought that this was going to be a two parter to remember which it was, but not in the right way...

How? Just how?

The main point of this story is the Gangers being able to gain minds of their own after the Solar Storm hits. But how can this happen? This was not explained in the episode and all the viewers were just supposed to accept it, but if you think about it, why weren't we given a proper explanation as to how the Gangers turned into real people?

Not much going on

Another really annoying part of this episode is how not much seems to be going on. Apart from the Gangers gaining minds of their own, basically nothing happens! So overall this episode is quite dull.

Bad Face

The CGI on the Gangers faces when they were half human-half flesh was quite bad. I didn't like the creamy looking faces and felt they looked very plastic-like. They didn't scare in my opinion and they seemed really strange looking and although I wanted to be on The Doctor's side, I couldn't help thinking that the others had a point as I wouldn't be very likely to help people who looked like that!

In Conclusion...

A fairly poor episode with the worst part being that not much is going on! The Almost People was better as quite a lot was going on but I don't think it made up for the fact of it's dull predecessor being well... dull! I did like the mystery in why The Doctor wanted to come here, but apart from that and the Solar Storm, this episode really lets the whole 'flesh' storyline down.

Series 6 was a series which people had mixed feelings about but I feel if it wasn't for The Rebel Flesh, Night Terrors and The God Complex this series would have been fantastic and people's perception of it would be much better.

Series 7 Countdown: Best Series 6

As Series 7 draws ever nearer, I am going to be publishing countdown posts. For each post I will write about my most memorable episode from that series and also a separate article for my least favourite episode of that series. (The 2009 Specials and the Christmas Special's will both have there separate articles) Today's article is on my favourite episode of Series 6.

The Wedding of River Song

This episode is extremely exciting and definitely ends a series which most people have mixed emotions about, very well. From Daleks to River Song, from Silence to the question, this episode was full of excitement and in this article I will detail some of my favourite parts of it.

NOTE: The Girl Who Waited was an extremely great episode but I feel The Wedding of River Song was a lot more important, maybe not as emotional, but definitely more exciting.

Hello Dalek

The scene where the Doctor has knocked down a Dalek and it is struggling to get back in control, is genius as it shows The Doctor is capable of taking down a Dalek by himself, the inside of the top half of the New Paradigm Daleks is revealed and the dialogue which The Doctor uses is fantastic. "... you looked up and you saw me. Hello Dalek".

Headless Monks Heads

I loved the setting of the skulls of the beheaded place because it was so eery and creepy and it just proved that the Headless Monks really are quite a scary monster! The reveal of Dorium was good but what I don't understand is, how has Dorium still got his head, where everyone else is just a skull?

The Soothsayer

I loved how The Doctor had become a Soothsayer in this episode! I wasn't a fan of the beard though...! The scenes between The Doctor and Churchill were great as you knew the Silence were about to appear but you didn't know quite how... Also I thought that Kovarian had made Amy one of her human servants as she was wearing an eye-piece when she shot the Doctor, but obviously she wasn't...

Captain Williams

Rory really showed his bravery in this episode which I really liked and my favourite part with Rory in this episode was when they had just defeated the Silence and Amy says, "We should go for a drink sometime. *Rory agrees* And married! *Rory agrees again*". I just found this hilarious!

The Wedding of Melody Pond

The Doctor knew that River needed to realise he was the Teselecta, so 'marrying' her was a nice touch, just so they could get close enough so she could look into his eye! I also loved before hand when she refused to kill The Doctor, which shows us who River really is: a nice, kind, caring and compassionate person - completely the opposite of which we saw in Let's Kill Hitler!

Doctor Who...?

The very last scene of Series 6 was probably the best and most exciting scene we have ever heard in Doctor Who history... so far! Dorium finally revealing what the question is - "Doctor Who?"...

In Conclusion...

A very good episode but also extremely exciting! The reveal of the question, seeing how the Doctor can now just slip back into the shadows and also, The Silence finally being defeated... Well they'll probably have more to do to The Doctor before that fateful day on the Fields of Trenzalore...

Tomorrow: Worst Episode of Series 6
