Series 7 Countdown: Best Series 2

As Series 7 draws ever nearer, I am going to start publishing countdown posts. For each post I will write about my most memorable episode from that series and also a separate article for my least favourite episode of that series. (The 2009 Specials and the Christmas Special's will both have there separate articles) Today's article is on my favourite episode of Series 2.

Doomsday

Doomsday has to go down as one of the best episodes of Doctor Who ever just because of it's sheer brilliance and the heartbreaking conclusion that saw the Doctor and Rose's adventure come to an end...

NOTE: It was between Doomsday and the Girl in the Fireplace, but I feel Doomsday is just ever so slightly better!

Cult of Skaro

Doomsday saw the introduction of the Cult of Skaro and it was very interesting to see Dalek's with names and for the first time since the revival, a black dalek! I loved the scene where the Doctor talks to them about Arcadia and the mystery surrounding the Genesis Ark...

Battle of Torchwood

The Battle between the Daleks and the Cybermen was fantastic, as every Doctor Who fan will know, a battle between these two nemesis is must see TV! Of course, the Daleks were always going to win if the Doctor hadn't sent them all into the Void, but it was still magical!

Genesis Ark

The scene when Dalek Sec and the Genesis Ark flew up into the sky, we were all on the edge of our seats wondering what was going to be inside: a bomb, weapon, Davros?! But it turned out to be a Dalek prison ship which was fantastic!

Into the Void

Unlike quite a few of two-parter conclusions (Journeys End - twirl a button and the Daleks are useless?!), this conclusion was great as it was not only believable it actually managed to put away all the Doctor's problems - The Daleks, Cybermen and Torchwood! Of course it didn't all go according to plan...

Goodbye Rose

We all knew that Billie Piper was leaving Doctor Who and we all wanted to know how she went - did she actually die like she says in the prequel to Army of Ghosts? Well no she didn't and Russell T. Davies began his parade of promised companion deaths for them to not die at all (Journey's End - Donna). But Rose's exit was a good one and the heartbreaking scene of them either side of the wall, never able to see each other again brought a tear to the eye. But the best scene of the revival so far was about to take place on Bad Wolf Bay. If you haven't seen it I won't spoil it for you but for god sake, watch it NOW!

In Conclusion...

Without a doubt, the best episode of Series 1 and 2 combined and one of the best ever! Great enemies, great story, great characters and a heartbreaking end combine to make the best episode RTD has ever penned.

Tomorrow: Worst Episode of Series 2
